Community maps: from the editor to the game
Anyone with a verified account can design a battlefield. It goes through a person, then through the community. This is the whole route.
Make a map
- Sign in and open the map editor. It runs in your browser, on a computer.
- Press NEW MAP and pick a size (12 to 32 tiles a side), or open an official map with the arrows and change it.
- Paint the ground and the heights, add props, mark where each side starts. Press INFO to name the map and describe it.
- Press SAVE DRAFT as often as you like: a draft is yours alone, up to ten of them. MY MAPS lists them.
- When it is ready, press SUBMIT FOR REVIEW.
What a map needs
The editor and the server check these before a map can even be saved as a draft, and tell you what is missing:
- Spawn points for both teams (SPAWN A and SPAWN B), the same number each, at least three a side so a 3 v 3 fits. Ten a side makes it a 10 v 10 map.
- At least ten food spots (FOOD), so a long battle does not starve.
- Enough ground for the battle your spawn points promise: at least 7 walkable tiles per pig (42 for a 3 v 3, 70 for a 5 v 5, 140 for a 10 v 10), and at least 30% of the map walkable. Spawn and food spots have to stand on the map's ground.
- A name of 3 to 40 characters. No links, web addresses or invitations in the name or the description.
- It has to be playable: when you send it, the server fights one test battle on it before it reaches a person.
You can have three maps waiting for review at once and send five a day.
The route
| Stage | What it means |
|---|---|
| Draft | Yours alone. Edit it as much as you want. |
| In review | A person is looking. You can no longer edit it. |
| Refused | A person said no and wrote why. Fix the map and send it again. |
| In the community | In the gallery. Players pick it in a waiting room (WITH FRIENDS, then the map, then COMMUNITY), fight on it and like it. |
| In the game | It reached 500 likes. It is now part of the official maps, for everyone. |
| Withdrawn | Taken back by you, or removed by us. |
The vote, and your reward
A signed-in player with a verified email can like a map, once, after fighting on it, and never their own. When a map reaches 500 likes it joins the official maps by itself, and you earn 200 truffles, once. We may discard likes from accounts made to inflate a count.
Reporting and removal
If a map should not be there, report it from its page. A few reports hide it until a person has looked. A removed map stops being fought on. To have a map removed, write to support@pigwars.app with its link.
