Staring at an empty garment is the hard part. Here are thirty outfits, each with a recipe you can follow in the Skin Studio: which garment, what base colour, and whether it is a texture or an image. They are starting points. The best skins on the gallery are the ones that took an idea and made it worse in an interesting way.
One rule before you start: draw it yourself or use something you are allowed to use. No real brand logos, no characters you do not own. The creators page has the short version of what gets through.
Patterns
A pattern is a texture: load one small image and the studio repeats it over the garment. Scale makes it bigger or smaller.
- Bacon stripes (T-shirt). Pale pink base, a tile with one darker pink band, scale about 5.
- Camouflage (Pants). Olive base, a tile of dark and light blobs, scale about 2.5. Make the blobs wrap at the tile edges.
- Hazard tape (Short coat). Yellow base, diagonal black bands, scale about 4. Impossible to miss on a battlefield, which is the joke.
- Gingham (Dress). White base, a tile with a translucent red band both ways, scale about 4.
- Tartan (Long coat). Dark green base, wide red bars, a thin yellow line and a dark overlay.
- Polka dots (Pants). Yellow base, one black dot per tile, scale about 6.
- Houndstooth (Short coat). Black and white, the tile is the whole trick. Make it twice, large and small, and pick the one that reads.
- Checkerboard (T-shirt). Two colours, a tile of four squares, scale about 3. Slightly dizzying from the side.
- Sunset gradient (Dress). A tall narrow tile that fades from purple to orange; it runs from the shoulders to the hem.
- Spots (Shorts). A cow print, which is a pig pretending to be a different animal and getting away with it.
Jokes
An image on the front, and often a different one on the back. The back is where the second half of the joke goes.
- Stop sign (Shorts). Red base, a white-bordered octagon with STOP on the front and again on the back.
- Survivors (T-shirt). Black base, white text PIGS OF WAR on the front, SURVIVORS: 0 on the back. Permadeath is the point.
- Employee of the month (T-shirt). White base, a small name badge on the chest with a name nobody could pronounce.
- Warning label (Short coat). Yellow base, a black triangle with an exclamation mark on the back, small print on the sleeves.
- Size tag (T-shirt). A tiny label on the left side that says XXS. Placed on the side, it is a joke only the pig can read.
- Sorry in advance (Long coat). A neat apology printed across the shoulders, centred and polite.
Themes
- Truffle hunter (T-shirt). Dark green base, a truffle drawn on the chest: a brown lump with darker dots.
- Barn door (Dress). Red base, white diagonal braces on the skirt, a small hay-coloured stripe at the hem.
- Mud (Pants). Brown to dark brown gradient from the knee down. A pig with expectations managed.
- Overalls (Pants). Denim blue base, a pocket and two buttons drawn near the top, light stitching along the sides.
- Chef (Short coat). White base, two rows of buttons. Everyone will assume the pig is dangerous. They are right.
- Spy (Long coat). Dark grey, a raised collar painted in a lighter grey, nothing else. It is a trench coat; it needs nothing else.
Occasions
- Winter jumper (T-shirt). Red base, a white band of small snowflake dots across the chest and the sleeves.
- Spooky (Dress). Black base, white bones drawn on the front, the ribs on the back.
- Birthday (Dress). Bright base, scattered confetti texture, a number on the chest.
- Wedding (Long coat). Ivory base, a faint pattern on the hem, a single flower on the chest.
- Team kit (T-shirt). Two colours in vertical bands, a big number on the back, a name above it. Make up the team.
- Referee (T-shirt). Black and white vertical stripes and nothing else. The pig will be unbearable.
Before you submit
- Turn the pig all the way round. The back and the sides are half of the garment.
- Look at it small. In a battle a pig is about as tall as your thumb: bold shapes survive, fine print does not.
- Check what is under it. A coat is seen over a t-shirt, so a busy coat and a busy t-shirt fight each other.
When it works, follow the steps in the studio guide and send it for review.
