How pigs decide what to do

Nobody controls a pig during a fight. Each tick it looks at what it can see, scores every action it is allowed to take, and does the best one. This is the list.

The loop

A pig only knows about enemies inside its sight range, which comes from its Vision. For movement it knows roughly where the enemy team is. From that picture, each available action produces a score, and the highest score wins the turn. Unlock an action and you change what the pig can choose. Raise a stat and you change how much it wants to.

Actions every pig has

  • Basic attack. Fights the nearest target and gets an elevation bonus from higher ground. At Strength 70 it can stun.
  • Move. Closes on enemies. With nothing in sight it explores one quadrant of the map at a time.
  • Flee. Breaks away when health drops under Intelligence ÷ 200. Will resists the urge. It has a short cooldown, and the last pig on a team fights to the death instead.
  • Forage and seek food. Hurt, out of sight of enemies and clever enough, a pig walks to food and eats to recover. Will decides how thorough the search is.
  • Pray. Aura 30 or more and below 20% health: the pig kneels and begs the nearest enemy for mercy. High Aura prefers praying, high Intelligence prefers running.
  • Wait. The fallback when nothing else scores.

Actions you unlock

  • Heal (Empathy 40, heal skill). Mends the most wounded ally first, or itself.
  • Body Shield (Empathy 50). Steps in front of attacks on allies under 30% health.
  • Shield (Aura 50). Absorbs damage for a few ticks, best used at moderate health and when outnumbered.
  • Rally (Aura 30). A damage boost for nearby allies.
  • Revive (revive skill). Brings back a dead ally within two tiles at 30% health, using one of a limited number of charges.
  • Throw grenade (Strength 50, grenade skill). Targets the biggest cluster of enemies and poisons everyone it hits.
  • Spell (spell skills). Intelligence scales the damage, with a chance to burn.
  • Teleport (Agility tree). Blinks next to a distant enemy.
  • Charm (Aura tree). Turns the strongest nearby enemy to your team, unless its Will is 40 or more.
  • Fatal fart (health tree skill). A toxic cloud that grows with stored calories, hitting everyone within two tiles.
  • Kamikaze (a rare Will and Strength combination). Below 15% health, a pig can blow itself up for heavy area damage.

Friendly fire is real

Grenades, the fatal fart and kamikaze hurt allies. A pig with the conscious area-attack skill will refuse to fire if a teammate is in the blast. Without it, it will not hold back.

Team signals

Pigs on the same team coordinate without being told to. They call for help, share what they have spotted, focus fire on the weakest enemy and regroup when a fight goes badly.
